WHY CRAFT BEER?              RAY DETER TRIBUTE

Promoting quality, diversity, and knowledge of beer - and (importantly) the industry that produces it.
This is a 'D.I.Y.' website; my philosophy is if you want to say something, don't just sit there - Do It Yourself!

- Alex Hall

As the last few years has seen an explosion in the number of beer brands available in New York (and where to find them), it is proving impossible to track and list everything as I did previously in Beer Demystifier. Consequently this site, plus sister site cask-ale.co.uk, will largely be focusing on cask beer information. However, I am maintaining a guide to all breweries within the five boroughs of the city, and there is 'A New York Beer & Pub Guide' that is a joint effort as a sister site to the London Beer Guide (which I'm not involved with).

THE MALTED BARLEY APPRECIATION SOCIETY OF NEW YORK CITY

This is the beer club which I currently run. Be aware the website is having issues with updates (no viruses, just uploading technicalities). We are general beer geekery as such, but started in 1994 as a homebrewing club. The best of both worlds now, you don't have to homebrew to attend by any means.

The club meets every second Wednesday of the month at Mugs Ale House, 125 Bedford Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (in the back room). Everybody is welcome, there is usually at least one guest from the craft beer industry with samples to share. We ask for $2 from everyone attending each session (the former $20 annual dues were scrapped in January 2016).

IMPORTANT UPDATE MARCH 2018

The clubs's website is having hosting issues (no viruses, don't worry) so for the time being the club's recent newsletters are going to be on here instead of the regular club site. The URL for the club on the hbd.org platform is unable to be updated from technical issues.

March 2018 newsletter - MARCH 2018
March guests will be from Gun Hill and Keg & Lantern breweries.

February 2018 newsletter - FEBRUARY 2018

January 2018 newsletter - JANUARY 2018

Previous newsletters can be read at http://www.mbas.hbd.org. We still have the domain but it has been futile to update the site recently, hence the last newsletters are on one of my own URLs instead.
